If you have just
realised you have synesthesia - congratulations.
Typically synesthetes report one of three experiences in coming to learn about their
synesthesia. Either they have been ridiculed early in life for reporting their coloured letters or music to other children
or incredulous adults, or they never reported it to anyone, not realising that others had a different perceptual experience,
that is not everyone has synesthesia or they grew up with a parent that had synesthesia and argued (in a fun way) about the
differences in their color associations. (A is blue, no its not, its red.... etc)
Many people have come to learn late in life that they do not see things the way the rest of the population do. (indeed its
pretty difficult to know exactly what other peoples internal experience is like).
There are some really great web sites published by people with synesthesia. I've listed a few below. Also Sean Day runs a terrific email list where synesthetes talk about their experiences. Its
a moderated list so there is never any junk email. It usually has very interesting material and the research community also
participates in responses to questions synesthetes ask. There is also a live journal blog for synesthesia
